Sir Owen O'Sullivan b. abt. 1549-1594

OWEN O'SULLIVAN, born before 1549 (likely 1545), Dunboy Castle, Munster, Ireland; son of Dermod O'Sullivan (Lord Beare of Dunboy) and Lady Julia MacCarthy.

In 1570 he married HELENA BARRY  b. ca 1549, Ireland (daughter of JAMES, LORD BARRY, FITZRICHARD BARRY-ROE and ELLEN MacCARTHY-REAGH).

It is reported that in manner, temperament, and disposition, Owen was singularly unlike most of the impulsive ardent Irish of his time. He was a man of deep, quiet, calm demeanor; grave and thoughtful in his manner, yet notably firm and inflexible in all that touched his personal honor.

Owen acknowledged the English crown and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth.Sir Owen (or EOGHAN) sat in Parliament in 1585.

A few short years later he lost a legal suit to his nephew, Donel, over "all territories, countries, lands, and hereditaments of Beare, Bantry, and Ardea, and ll other castles" including "the castle and haven of Dunboy".

OWEN died 1594, Dunboy Castle, Munster, Ireland, buried 1594, Ireland.

His children were Owen O'Sullivan (1570-1616), John, Donel, and Julia.
